America is at an
important crossroads. Our infrastructure is crumbling, joblessness remains
high, our tax code is convoluted and outdated, immigration reform is long
overdue, and America houses more prisoners than anywhere else in the world.
Americans are also, understandably, fed up; with polls showing congress’
approval ratings at some of the lowest levels in history. It is apparent party
politics have failed us; so in order to solve America’s most pressing issues we
must eliminate the two-party system and elect independent candidates who are
willing to enact thoughtful solutions to our nation’s biggest problems.
In George Washington’s
1796 farewell address, our 1st American President warned us against
the destructive nature of party politics and the damage it would have on our
Republic. George Washington famously said: “The alternate
domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge,
natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has
perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.” This fact is
increasingly more apparent as both the left and the right become more
entrenched and talking heads wage a war of words across every major news
outlet. While these wars rage; politicians wage campaigns across the nation for
hearts and minds and dollar bills and our nation’s most pressing issues go
neglected.
Americans are fed up.
Congress’ approval ratings hover around record lows and recent Gallup poll
shows 42% of Americans identify themselves as political independents, the
highest Gallup has measured since it began conducting interviews 25 years ago.
The same poll only found 31% of Americans identifying as Democrats and 25% as
Republicans. These numbers illustrate that a plurality of Americans are
unrepresented. It is time to nominate and elect Independent candidates to
office so that we can be represented and take back our country from a political
class that does not have our interests at heart.
Party Politics are at
odds with effective governance and is a hindrance to solving even our most
basic issues. The 112th has been one of the least productive US
congress’ since the do-nothing congress of the 1940s and our current 113th is on par to be even worse, in fact,
congress has become increasingly unproductive over the last 10 years.
We must fight back
against ineffective Party Politicians by electing Independent candidates and
amending our state constitutions to allow for open primaries and elect
Independent candidates. Let’s come together, roll up our sleeves and vote the
bums out! Make sure to share this with everyone you know and remember Crash the
Party Vote Independent.
